The Russian Parliament’s upper house, the Council of Federation, is likely to consider the law on ratifying the new Russian-US START treaty today.
The START treaty aims to reduce the number of nuclear warheads by a third and halve the ceilings for strategic delivery weapons in the next seven years.

The Russian Parliament’s lower house, the State Duma, and US Congress have already ratified the treaty.
The new pact will replace the START 1 treaty signed in April 2010 by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and US President Barack Obama.
