The US Army has awarded a contract to Lockheed for the production of a low-light-level TV capability, called VNsight, for the Apache‘s modernised target acquisition designation sight / pilot night vision sensor (M-TADS / PNVS).

As per the $15m contract, Lockheed will produce 65 sensors and spares to equip two Apache battalions, and will upgrade the M-TADS / PNVS systems to a field retrofit.

The new VNsight visible / near infrared sensor will be integrated into the PNVS, to provide the warfighter with significant tactical advantages in low-light-level conditions.

The integration and enhanced mission capability will increase pilot situational awareness, flight safety, mission flexibility and improved air-to-ground coordination.

Lockheed Missiles and Fire Control will serve as system integrator and produce the VNsight lens, while Lockheed Mission Systems and Sensors will provide the sensor’s camera.
