The Indian Army has conducted live fire tests of the Javelin anti-tank missile with the US Army during the annual Yudh Abhyas 2010 bilateral training exercise.

Two Javelin anti-tank missiles were test fired to successfully hit a target, according to Brahmand.

The Javelin is a fire-and-forget missile with lock-on before launch and automatic self guidance, and is capable of engaging helicopters in a direct-attack mode.

The system takes a top-attack flight profile against armoured vehicles as well as a direct-attack mode for use against buildings or fortifications.

India has plans to acquire the missile system under the US foreign military sale (FMS) programme.
