Term: Radiation Sickness


Definition:

Radiation sickness is an illness caused by exposure to a high level of radiation either in a short, intense burst or gradually over a period. Symptoms of radiation sickness include vomiting, diarrhea, hemorrhaging, loss of hair and loss of energy. The main cause of radiation sickness in a military context is proximity to the detonation of a nuclear weapon or its fallout.
