JIEDDO Counter-IED Strategic Plan 2012–2016

22 February 2012

Improvised explosive devices (IED) have emerged as the threat weapon of choice but are one of the greatest challenges facing coalition forces in current theatres of operation. To encounter the global threat of IEDs requires a coherent and focused approach that collaboratively and continually seeks effective solutions.

This report seeks to frame a strategy that sets the path for counter-IED efforts in collaboration with partner nations, interagency and intergovernmental organisations to enable the defeat of the IED as a weapon of strategic influence.

The report extends the focus beyond current operations and establishes an azimuth for the development of future and enduring counter-IED capabilities by institutionalising the knowledge, capabilities and experience that were amassed during the last decade.
