Non-Strategic Nuclear Weapons

The US-Russian Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) in 2010 and past arms control agreements between the nations did not include limits on Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons.

This report provides basic information about the US and Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons and the policies that guided the deployment and prospective use of weapons and the measures that the two sides have taken to reduce and contain their forces.

The report reviews the issues that have been raised with regard to US and Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons, and summarises a number of policy options that might be explored by Congress, the US, Russia and other nations to address the issues.
