GMA Cover Corporation was honored by the Department of Defense with an award for "value engineering achievement" for the 2006 fiscal year at an award ceremony held at the Pentagon on May the 16th, 2007.
Accepting the award on behalf of GMA were Mr. Glenn Verkindt (CEO), Mr. Brian Keller (chairman), Mr. Robert Lemieux (chief technical officer), and Ms Christine Kingston (sales coordinator).
The value engineering program provides opportunity and incentive to design solutions that improve or maintain the overall quality of a product while reducing the overall costs. "We are extremely proud of this accomplishment," stated Mr. Verkindt.
LIGHTWEIGHT MODULAR BOW CONFIGURATION
GMA initiated a Value Engineering Change Proposal (VECP) to replace the one-piece steel bows on all Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) with a lightweight, modular bow configuration. This design change is a win-win situation for the government and the soldier, as it will not only save the government an estimated potential $10 million over the next five years in procurement and logistics costs, but it is also a much more soldier-friendly system: it is both quicker and easier to assemble than its cumbersome predecessor whilst also maintaining all of the required structural integrity. Procurement has already begun on these items.
The Department of Defense reported that during the 2006 fiscal year 3,473 value engineering proposals were accepted. GMA was one of only three contractors given awards at this year's ceremony.
