Peli Launches a Revolutionary New Torch to Improve the Security of Police Officers

15 October 2007 11:21

Barcelona – Peli Products, EMEA headquarters for Pelican Products, the leading manufacturer of professional torches and security cases, has launched a revolutionary new torch developed in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD): the Peli 7060 LED. This product is equipped with a new generation super-bright LED module, considerably improving on the performance of ordinary torches.

HIGHER-OUTPUT LED

The 7060's modern LED technology produces a brilliant white light that far surpasses the output from earlier-generation LEDs. At the same time, this LED lamp is extremely durable and is rated for greater than 10,000hr of use. It also has a long and continuous battery life of 90min, with no loss in intensity, as compared to ordinary rechargeable torches that dim as the charge depletes. All of these features are key factors for higher reliability and security to the officers working in the field.

Pelican Product's CEO Lyndon Faulkner states: "Due to its characteristics, the Peli 7060 LED can be especially useful for police officers in their fight against crime. The torch produces a disorienting brightness that can give police officers the crucial seconds they need to gain the upper hand on a suspect and determine the appropriate action. This advantage can save lives."

A 'first-of-its-kind' three-way switch technology gives officers a choice to immediately switch from patrol to tactical mode in seconds. The 7060 is less than half the weight of existing standard law enforcement torches and the smaller size provides more space on an officer's duty belt for other equipment. The high-impact xenoy resin body is virtually indestructible and incorporates Peli's distinctive faceted design.

Some of Europe's most important law enforcement and fire and rescue services depend on Peli torches: in France it is the Gendarmerie Nationale and 'Sapeurs Pompiers de Paris'; in Italy the Vigili del Fuoco; in Ireland the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI); in Spain the Guardia Civil; Policía Nacional and the Marines; in Greece the police during the Olympic Games; and in Germany cities like Cologne and Munich. Due to its reputation for high quality and superb service, Peli has been chosen by industry-leading European companies like MSA (Germany), MSA Gallet (France) and SICOR (Italy) as their preferred partner in portable lighting products.

7600 LED IMPROVES OFFICER SECURITY

The 7060 LED project kicked off two years ago when the LAPD detected a security problem. The torches used by their officers were insufficient in the fight against crime as their light was not bright enough. LAPD selected Pelican Products to work with the Department to create a new torch that could improve the security of the officers. The result is a unique product that is far brighter than previous LAPD-issued lights. The additional illumination allows officers to better establish if a suspect several feet away has a gun or other weapon in their hand.

During the official ceremony recently organized in Los Angeles to present the product, LAPD chief William Bratton commended Pelican, saying "Pelican's 7060 torch will give our officers the upper hand in fighting crime." Further, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said: "I'm pleased to see how the LAPD and Pelican worked together to make significant improvements to one of the most valuable tools that our officers use each and every day."
