21 April 2008 15:42

Pelican™ Products, the parent company of Peli™ Products, the global leader in the manufacture of advanced lighting systems and virtually indestructible cases, has appointed retired Marine Corps General Peter Pace as the chairman of its board.

Pace is the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a four-star general, and brings more than four decades of military and defence leadership expertise to Pelican’s board. Pace assumes the chairman's position at Pelican in a nonexecutive role and will provide additional strategic oversight to the company’s work in the military, defence and federal government sectors.

"The military and defence markets are an important strategic focus for us and we are devoted to developing new technologies and products that enable militaries to do their jobs better and safer," said Lyndon Faulkner, president and CEO of Pelican Products. "The addition of General Pace to our board, coupled with our aggressive global expansion plans, will make our company an even more important player in advanced lighting and protector cases for the defence forces in the US and internationally."

"After more than 40 years of service to my country, it’s difficult to fully disconnect from the calling I so loved and for which I devoted a significant amount of my life and energy,” said Pace. “Lyndon Faulkner and the Pelican team have given me the opportunity to utilize my military experience with a company whose products are critical to the work of the military. I am excited to join the Pelican team and help build on their work in the military sector and identify new, cutting-edge products and technologies that will equip the next-generation soldier.”

Since its inception more than 30 years ago, Pelican Products has built a reputation for developing the highest quality, military-grade protector cases, torches and lighting systems in the world. Pace, 62, served as the 16th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the most senior position in the United States Armed Forces, from September 2005 to October 2007. In his capacity as chairman, he served as advisor to the US President, Secretary of Defence, the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council. Pace also served as the vice-chairman from 2001 to 2005. He is the first marine to have served as either chairman or vice-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

During his tenure as chairman, Pace was responsible for providing military advice on US operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Teaneck, NJ, Pace is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and holds a Master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University. He received his commission in the Marine Corps in June 1967.
