Transport of Heavy Weight Powertrains for Tanks

28 August 2009

Packaging and transport of powertrains for tanks are often a challenge due to the size and weight of the powertrains. The powertrains have to be transported safely to the conflict areas and the un-packing have to be manageable for personnel situated in the area.

Clip-Lok has developed a collapsible reusable transport box for powertrains for tanks with a net weight of 6,500kg. The objective was to make a strong, but not too heavy packaging that could be handled without extra tools or crane.

We have managed to develop a transport box that fulfils the above mentioned demands. It can be handled by a few persons without crane and extra tools. The box can easily be built up around the powertrain at the pallet as opposed to today's solutions, where the hood has to be handled by crane, which makes unpacking and especially repacking very complicated.

The box is assembled with strong spring steel clips which are easy to detach. Top and sides are loose parts and easily removed, immediately exposing the powertrain. The powertrain is secured with mounting blocks and straps which ensure safe transport to the conflict area.

The solid base and reinforced sides and top allow two loaded boxes, to be double stacked in warehouse thus reducing space required. When not in use the boxes can be collapsed to flat packs in the approximate ratio 1:3 which reduces logistical cost and space needed.
