RUAG Electronics Hands Over Combat Training Centre to Taiwanese Army

23 August 2006 09:44

A combat training centre supplied by the Simulation & Training Division of RUAG Electronics was handed over for use by the land forces of the ROC Army in Taiwan.

Together with its Taiwanese partner MITAC Inc., RUAG Electronics delivered a complete training system within 18 months. Besides 1400 laser-based firing simulators for various types of guns and light-weight vehicles, the system includes the associated harness units for the soldiers, a data communications system with mobile antenna masts and a permanently installed exercise control centre (Excon).

This system allows combat exercises to be carried out in an area of 25 square kilometers. The 100% radio coverage required for this task was just one of the challenges involved. Others entailed the adaptation of the system to the Chinese language and the 3-D After-Action Review, which can create scenes of silver-screen quality from the events recorded during the exercises. RUAG Electronics bore full responsibility for technology and supplied 75% of the total order.

The entire system recently underwent formal approval to the full satisfaction of the land forces. With this order, RUAG has laid excellent groundwork for further projects involving simulation-based training systems in the Far East.
