Battlefield Sports to Exhibit New Developments at 23rd Small Arms and Cannons Symposium

21 August 2009

Battlefield Sports will exhibit at the 23rd Small Arms and Cannons Symposium, which will take place at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham, 25-27 August 2009.

Battlefield Sports, specialists in precision small arms training weapons utilising infrared and radio communications, will feature at their exhibition the latest range of state-of-the-art training and simulation equipment, including the company's new small arms transmitter receiver (S*A*T*R) system.

Infrared training weapons

Battlefield Sports' new S*A*T*R system features self-contained training rifles, SAWs and sub machine guns which can emulate up to 69 different weapons, including the L85 (SA80) and Minimi (L110A1) squad automatic weapons.

S*A*T*R is designed for force-on-force training exercises to provide real-time feedback during simulation, as well as an electronic record of their performance for after-action reviews.

S*A*T*R uses a combination of narrow beam digital infrared data and radio data transfer, enabling real-time hit-feedback and other statistics such as shot accuracy percentage without requiring a central computer system.

Depending on the model, the infrared "bullets" shoot more than 450m. Since it is a light based system, the weapons are accurate. This patent-pending technology also features real-time voice feedback. For example when a marine hits an enemy, the shooting weapon instantly says "casualty" or "kill confirmed" or "already dead". The enemy's weapon issues a near-miss, wound, or dead sound effect.

Since the system does not require blank munitions, paint balls or BB pellets, it is also cost-effective. Furthermore the robust system is accurate and has in-built anti-cheating technology - the instant a soldier takes a hit causing simulated death or an incapacitating wound the system disables fire automatically.

The Symposium at Shrivenham uses a well proven format which brings together representatives from military staff, government procurement agencies and research and development staff. Through presentations, discussion groups and plenary sessions a cross-fertilisation of ideas and the development of new perspectives are encouraged.

Paul Diamond, a Battlefield Sports UK agent, said: "Participation in the Small Arms and Cannons Symposium is a regular event in our calendar and we are delighted that Battlefield Sports is participating again this year."
