Battlefield Sports - Precision Small Arms Training Weapons utilizing infrared and radio communications, and Inflatable CQB Props

Battlefield Sports offers innovative and cost-effective small arms training weapons and inflatable training props.

Battlefield Sports is headquartered in Australia and has agents in the UK, USA, Spain, France and Singapore.

Its new S*A*T*R (small arms transmitter receiver) features self-contained training weapons which can emulate 69 different weapons, including the M4, M16, the L85 (SA80) and Minimi (L110A1) squad automatic weapons.

High tech small arms training weapons

Battlefield Sports has already supplied a number of training weapons to the British Royal Marine Commandos, where the simulated weapons have been met with approval due to their adaptability and robustness. The weapons will be used by marines afloat in CQB, infiltration and boarding action training exercises in a specially prepared area aboard the HMS Bulwark.

Battlefield Sports has also been used by the Australian Army for a team-building exercise which saw the Combat Engineers Squadron engage in section versus section simulation then engage a group of Live Play actors in a mission rehearsal type activity.

CQB infrared training weapons

Battlefield Sports’ new S*A*T*R system features self-contained training rifles, SAWs and sub machine guns which can emulate 69 different weapons, each categorized into a gun class:

  • Handguns
  • Submachine guns
  • Rifles / carbines
  • Machine guns

S*A*T*R is designed for force-on-force training exercises to provide real-time feedback during simulation, as well as an electronic record of their performance for after-action reviews.

S*A*T*R , using a combination of narrow beam of digital infrared data and radio data transfer, enables real-time hit-feedback and other statistics such as shot accuracy percentage without requiring a central computer system. The system simulates recoil by powering down the scope for a short interval after each shot. Weapons with high recoil values have longer power down times. The system also has appropriate weapon support: fully automatic fire, semi automatic fire, burst fire, bolt action fire and single shot depending on which weapon is being emulated.

Depending on the model, the infrared “bullets” shoot more than 450 meters. However for close quarters battles the software can reduce the range. Since it is a light based system, the weapons are accurate. This patent-pending technology also features real-time voice feedback. For example when a marine hits an enemy, the shooting weapon instantly says “casualty” or “kill confirmed” or “already dead.” The enemy’s weapon issues a near-miss, wound, or dead sound effect.

However, S*A*T*R really comes into its own when training company sized engagements because it is not always possible to watch every soldier's actions. It alleviates any safety concerns associated with traditional blank-firing weapons training systems. In addition, the need to procure enough rounds of blank munitions for training whilst afloat is a costly logistical exercise.

The primary invention separating S*A*T*R from other systems is the ability to perform real time hits back to the shooter in a mobile outdoor environment. This is a totally turnkey solution with nothing to setup and no requirement for a central computer system. Each S*A*T*R unit sends and receives both infrared and radio digital messages to communicate with each other. Since units stand alone, the system is not single point sensitive - unlike systems tied to a central computer system. No tethering to a central system allows freedom to play over very large areas without concern that the units will move outside radio range.

In summary, the Battlefield Sports’ infrared training weapons forego the need for ammunition and are safe to use at close range, making them the ideal and cost-efficient solution for training.

Inflatable CQB training props

Battlefield Sports' patent-pending inflatable CQB props are an easy to use, flexible system for MOUT training scenarios. The Battlefield Sports’ range of inflatable props can be used to quickly and accurately recreate numerous MOUT scenarios, allowing marine forces to train for urban operations whilst at sea.

The inflatable doorways, windows, and walls clip together with carabineers to form an "instant" and authentic scene for room-clearing training. Our inflatable props are suitable for use with non-lethal Simunition FX or Battlefield Sports' S*A*T*R system, and can be used either indoors or outdoors.

Durable and authentic inflatable MOUT training props

The inflatables are made with two layers which enable the walls to appear flat, like a real wall, rather than ballooning like other inflatables. The smooth surface finish makes cleaning and maintenance quite manageable. The units are designed to withstand the punishment expected in training sessions. The outer layer is an extra heavy-duty skin which looks authentic, from brick / wallpaper to stone / moss to desert sandstone.

The under layer is a rubber internal airbag. The units to not require continuous air-flow, rather they are a sealed unit, like most military dummies. These units have a special valve which automatically adjusts for air-pressure from temperature fluctuations.

These inflatables are especially useful if you plan to move your training programs from location to location. These CQT Props are great if training space is tight or for a multi-use area. This is because they can be set up and configured as a maze of rooms, then moved or packed away and stored; therefore leaving the area free for other activities.
