Applied Dynamics - Real-Time and Virtual Simulation for Component and System IntegrationApplied Dynamics International (ADI) supplies tools and services for the development of electronic systems found in modern military ground vehicles, weapon systems, unmanned vehicles, aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and more. ADI technology and expertise are involved in the development of aerospace and defense products with a focus on intelligent integration through the use of real-time simulation and simulation-based software test. Army modernization programs include integration of substantial new technology content such as advanced fire control systems, automated ammunition handling systems, hybrid-electric propulsion controls, highly distributed and networked mission controls, and numerous homogenous communication systems. ADI products and application services provide a reliable foundation to ensure that your system integration project is successful. SYSTEM INTEGRATION LAB (SIL)The highly distributed, networked nature of next generation army technology will create a particularly challenging integration effort. System integration involves bringing together subsystems, assembling them into the complete vehicle or weapon system, then testing and evaluating all system functionality. System integration must be a highly coordinated activity and is performed in what are called System Integration Labs (SIL). SILs are risk reduction facilities where software and hardware can be developed, integrated, tested and evaluated for both stand alone functionality and/or interoperability prior to being fielded. REAL-TIME COMPONENT INTEGRATION SIMULATION Real-time simulation is used to provide those components of vehicle or weapon system operation that are difficult or costly to bring into a lab such as aerodynamics, six degrees-of-freedom motion, changing global position and terrain, and situational awareness. The discovery of design and implementation flaws during SIL test is more cost effective and imposes far less technical risk on the development program than flaws found during final test. ADvantage REAL-TIME SIMULATION FRAMEWORKToday’s advanced aerospace and defense programs rely on ADI’s ADvantage framework to provide a real-time simulation backbone offering:
INTELLIGENT INTEGRATION "Intelligent Integration" is an approach used to implement highly efficient SILs for military development programs. When performing Intelligent Integration, a pure-software "virtual integration lab" is implemented in parallel with real-time simulator implementation. This approach allows for greater parallelization of development activities and thus reduces the overall cost and schedule for system integration. The ADvantage framework is the only simulation framework designed specifically for Intelligent Integration. ADvantage provides seamless movement between low-cost desktop simulation and high-performance real-time simulation to optimize integration efficiency. OPEN ARCHITECTURE REAL-TIME SIMULATIONSILs must interface with a combination of cutting edge and proprietary technologies. This raises the concern of whether an off-the-shelf real-time simulation framework will keep pace with the latest technologies, and whether it will enable proprietary technologies to be easily interfaced. The ADvantage framework provides the best of both worlds by offering a large-user-base, easy-to-use, reliable and lower-cost simulation framework, combined with complete compatibility and interoperability. Full compatibility and interoperability is achieved by using an extensible open architecture. This open architecture includes numerous real-time and non-real-time interfaces enabling integration teams to customize and extend the framework functionality to meet legacy, present, and future needs. ADI SERVICES System integration is a high pressure, technologically challenging activity. At ADI we're proud of our highly trained experts who've been involved in many of the most demanding integration projects over the past twenty years. ADI’s areas of expertise include:
