KOROPI, Greece, 18 September 2006 - With the recent delivery of the last batch and their acceptance by the end user, the contract for the supply of the driver's night vision viewers, Theon Sensors model NX-175C to be used on the 12 Armored Recovery Vehicles (ARV) of the Hellenic Armed Forces, was completed. The contract had been signed between Theon Sensors S.A. and the German company Rheinmetall Landsysteme.
During the same period, 16 driver's night vision viewers for the 8 Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) with a Leguan bridge on a Leopard 1GR Main Battle Tank (MBT) (the specific type of vehicle has two periscopes) of the Hellenic Army were delivered and accepted by the end user. The contract has been signed between Theon Sensors and the German group Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW).
Meanwhile, partial deliveries of the driver's night vision viewers for the Leopard 2HEL MBT are being continued, according to a contract signed also between Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Theon Sensors. Up to this date, 33 viewers have been delivered out of the total 172 systems that have been contracted. Apart from the driver's night vision viewers Theon Sensors also participates in the local production of the Leopard 2HEL MBT with the manufacture under licence of the eyepiece unit (Oculararm), through a direct contract with Rheinmetall Defense Electronics. The Ocular assembly relays to the gunner imagery from the periscope's visible and thermal channels and provides range from the laser range finder and other symbology.
The Leopard viewers belong to the family of driver's night vision viewers that have been designed, developed and manufactured by Theon Sensors S.A. Other models of the viewer family have been delivered to the Hellenic Ministry of Defense for other types of armoured vehicles such as the M113, the Leonidas and the PzH 2000, while important export contracts have been implemented in countries around the world including Australia, Chile, the Netherlands and Spain.
