Theon Sensors Signs Contract with Hellenic Defence Systems for Night Vision Weapon Sights
Theon Sensors S.A. (THEON) announced the signature of a contract with Hellenic Defence Systems S.A. (HDS) for the supply of 2.320 units of its model NS-685C night vision weapon sight.
The above award is part of a €61.8-million contract signed on January 11, 2006 between HDS and the Hellenic Ministry of Defence for the supply of 2,320 Minimi 5.56mm machine guns with assorted accessories and ammunition.
The contract signed between THEON and HDS for the supply of the night weapon sights is a follow-on contract to the one signed two years ago between the two companies for the supply of 750 night sights for machine guns of the same type, following an international tender which included field evaluation trials.
Facts about the NS-685C Night Sight
Theon Sensors has developed a family of night vision weapon sights consisting of models NS-467C and NS-685C with 4X and 6X magnification respectively, suitable for a wide variety of applications including individual rifles, light and medium machine guns, anti-tank weapons and grenade launchers.
The main characteristics of these sights are their high degree of commonality between them, their small dimensions and their low weight. The sights offer excellent boresighting retention and performance under all light conditions due to their optimised optics and high-performance image intensifier tubes. The NS-467C/NS-685C incorporate an Elcan Gen IV Mounting Bracket Assembly that allows direct mounting on the MIL-STD-1913 (Picatinny rail) of the weapon, thus offering precise adjustment in elevation and azimuth and retention of boresighting under harsh military conditions.
A unique feature of the sights is the illuminated red, injected via the eyepiece, ballistic reticle which can be easily changed in the field without special tools, thus offering the user the advantage of mounting the sight on different types of weapons in a fraction of time.
