Carl Zeiss Optronics - Military Optronic and Optical Sensors

Carl Zeiss Optronics designs, develops and produces state-of-the-art optronics instruments for military and civilian applications. They are used to monitor, identify and classify, as well as for precise measurement, evaluation and targeting.

As a subsidiary of the globally recognised Carl Zeiss Group, we are armed with years of experience and know-how in optronics, highly accurate optics and precision engineering.

Research and development are very important to us. We are one of the leading developers and manufacturers of optical and optronics systems in Europe.

With business activities in more than 30 countries, Carl Zeiss Optronics is an ideal partner for multinational optronics and optical sensor projects. We are continually expanding our international activities beyond existing co-operations and partnerships.

Carl Zeiss Optronics develops optronics systems with innovative technology for land, sea and air forces, as well as national security organisations.

Carl Zeiss Optronics' systems are tailored to custom operational and logistic requirements. Comprehensive documentation, intensive training and, of course, service throughout the entire lifecycle ensure long-term operational readiness.

MILITARY OPTRONIC AND OPTICAL SENSORS

Carl Zeiss Optronics develops and manufactures a wide variety of military optronic and optical sensors: thermal imaging devices, laser rangefinders and cameras that are also suitable for paramilitary applications. They provide staff, commanders and troops with necessary information on position and objects, targets, and foreign and friendly forces.

Carl Zeiss Optronics incorporates customer-specific aspects to its optronic and optical sensors to offer consultation, feasibility studies, design, documentation and innovative solution recommendations for future applications and system integration. We also provide customer and user support, as well as training and service.

Our range of military optronic and optical products includes:

  • Eye-safe laser rangefinders for precise measurements at all distances
  • High-resolution CCD, low-light level and special cameras
  • Handheld target observation and localisation systems with integrated visual channel, thermal-imaging device, laser rangefinder, compass and GPS receiver
  • Thermal-imaging devices for armoured vehicles and thermal-imaging cameras for small arms
  • Night-vision instruments for drivers based on night-vision goggles and uncooled thermal-imaging devices
  • Gunnery targeting instruments with gyroscope-stabilised target lines and integrated laser rangefinder for armoured vehicles
  • Commander periscope with gyroscope-stabilised target lines and integrated thermal-imaging device for armoured vehicles and naval application
  • Modular familiy of stabilised panoramic surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance platforms with integrated eye-safe laser rangefinder, TV camera and cooled / uncooled infrared sensors
  • Sensors and systems for fire-control systems

MILITARY TELESCOPIC SIGHTS AND NIGHT-VISION DEVICES

Carl Zeiss Optronics also supplies telescopic sights, night-vision devices and auxiliary optics for small arms, as well as binoculars and spotting scopes.

Our telescopic sights are available in two classes, in various versions: telescopic sights for standard weapons such as assault rifles, and telescopic sights for snipers.

Night-sight attachments can be mounted to a variety of handheld weapons, which, combined with a telescopic sight, allow marksmen to shoot accurately at night.

MILITARY INFRARED SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS

Carl Zeiss Optronics manufactures infrared systems for surveillance and security tasks for both military and civil organisations. During both day and night, they provide information that is always up-to-date, thus increasing flexibility when making decisions.

Thanks to their modular design, these systems are ideal for mobile and stationary use. They are used in land and water vehicles by the military, as well as in vehicles and observation facilities operated by customers and security organisations. In addition, Carl Zeiss Optronics supplies infrared targeting systems for military purposes.

Carl Zeiss Optronics' military infrared surveillance systems include:

  • Optronic sensors and multisensor platforms for mobile and stationary surveillance, e.g. homeland security, borders, camp protection, industrial facilities and buildings
  • Complete border-surveillance vehicles with radar systems e.g. Sprinter, G-Model, VW-Bus
  • Surveillance systems for customs and police vessels
  • Infrared sights for high-speed ferries
