In response to the terrorist bombings in Spain and the current terroristic threat against NATO forces in Afghanistan by urgent request of the NATO Foreign and Defence Ministers, NATO has initiated a technology demonstration called BELCOAST 2009 (www.belocast09.org) that took place from 05-15 October 2009 in Koksijde air base in Belgium.
Objectives were:
- Improve the protection of fixed, military critical infrastructure in operations by enhancing the use of new technological solutions
- Expand the application of the new technological solutions to the protection of fixed civilian critical infrastructure on the territory of the Nations
In the first week the industry was invited to demonstrate their products and technologies in order to discuss demonstration results with NATO's and Nations' operational, armaments and procurement community during the following exhibition taking place on the 14th and 15th of October.
unival® group has been successfully showcasing the new HEDD1® - Handheld Explosive Detection Device in 3 scenarios that were tested:
Scenario 1: „10 suitcases with random filling of different kind of explosives and IED components (TNT, RDX, PETN, etc.) delivered by „local workers“ employed in the compound“.
Scenario 2: „Local workers“ at entrance of the compound. Amongst them 1 Person is carrying a BBIED (Body Borne Improvised Explosive Device).
Scenario 3: „Several vehicles on the parking at the compound. 1 Vehicle has explosives or IED Components in.
The unique advantage of HEDD1® was manifested as an immediate classification of objects, persons or vehicles was achieved even behind barriers, allowing for further security measures. Unlike conventional technologies HEDD1® does not need any direct contact to explosives but can detect explosives from safe distances of up to 100 meters by using the patented Magneto-Electrostatic-Detection (MED) method.
In addition unival® group has been successfully showcasing their DWJ1® - FPGA controlled Digital Jamming System (20 - 6.000 MHz at max output of 2.450 Watt) for jamming of RCIED (Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device).
The DWJ1® jamming system is currently the only commercially available system offering real-time programming through a FPGA control board. The system allows for conventional jamming as well as smart-jamming based on its unique threat-detection database. With a maximum output of up to 2.450 Watt the DWJ1® system is able to provide real protection zones for VIP motorcades in risk areas. The system is further upgradable. For passenger protection unival® group offers customized ECM shielding. unival®group is currently launching it new portable/manpack jamming system PWJ1®.
