The Leading Edge in Power Transmission Technology RENK AG is one of the leading manufacturers of power transmisson engineering world-wide. For more than 40 years RENK and its French subsidiary SESM are developing and producing specific transmission solutions for armed vehicles.

The target is to use our experiences in offering our customers the optimum solution for its requirements. RENK is ready to develop and serve the customer with their products in the next decades. Today, the companies can provide a variety of tank transmissions automatically performing all the tasks of high efficiency, low weight and low life-cycle-costs.

The product range of RENK comprises fully automatic hydrodynamic-mechanical powershift, reverse and steering transmissions with brake systems and final drives (18 types) for medium and heavy-weight tracked vehicles in a power range of 150kW to 1,300kW. All tracked vehicles of the German Army are equipped with our HSWL type transmissions, with exception of Leopard 1, where we did not enter the competition. RENK is supplying for more than 25 nations transmissions nowadays for their Armed Forces. Prominent examples in the German Army, equipped with our propulsion systems, are Marder, Leopard 2, Howitzer SP 2000, Fennek and AIFV Puma. For other nations: we delivered transmissions for Leopard 2, Sweden and Spain, Leclerc Main Battle Tank for France and United Arab Emirates, Arjun Main Battle Tank for India, M60 upgrade Main Battle Tank for Turkey, FMBT Main Battle Tank for South Korea to name only a few.

In the course of the years the technology has steadily been developed and improved according to the latest state of the art. An example is the HSWL 256 type transmission for the AIFV Puma which has been developed and built based on the enormous experience gained over the years. This trans-mission will be shown on our stand at EUROSATORY.

At the beginning of the development of the HSWL 256 the concept was still completely pending. The necessity of the vehicle ability of being air loaded demanded a strongly limited vehicle weight. In this context not just the unit weight is of importance but the more its design size and its integration into the hull. The hull length influenced by the transmission has much a higher effect on the weight.

The examinations of all possible, already designed and new concepts showed that the lowest possible transmission specific vehicle weight can just be achieved with the proven HSWL concept. Among others electro-mechanic and electro-hydraulic solutions have been examined, both are systems RENK is intensely developing and examining since 1986.

Our subsidiary SESM will present at EUROSATORY a special tailored automatic transmission for T72 vehicles and derivates: the type ESM 350. Together with its high effective cooling system it can be adjusted to a variety of high power engines. It fits into the T72 hull and preserves the original silhouette of the vehicle. The transmission is designed to transmit 850 kW (1150 hp) engine power. Our first customer is Poland to install the ESM 350 into their PT 91 model for export to Malaysia. This program is executed during 2006 and 2007.

We are convinced that there will be a future tracked vehicle generation which will need propulsion systems. Today it is unknown how this "performance transmitters" will look like. They could be purely mechanical, hydraulical, electrical or electro-mechanical or any combination thereof. RENK is prepared for this challenge. Over the last years we have transformed from a classical gear manufacturer towards a supplier of power transmitting system between engine and tracks, no matter by which means.

RENK has restructured in a way to be prepared for the next challenges in technology for any vehicles and ships with the most modern technology in drive train design. RENK has in the past and will also in future engage itself in the international markets and shall stand for highest technology, reliable and quality products.
