Telutami Limited’s Emergency Casualty Evacuation system, the ECS, has been short-listed as one of the finalists in the 2006 Defence Technology Exchange Innovation Awards for the Human Performance and Survivability Innovation Transfer category. This prestigious national competition is part of a number of activities highlighting innovation in a wide variety of market disciplines, which can be adapted for use in the defence and industrial or commercial sectors.
The Managing Director of Telutami Limited, Jon Price, is delighted at the recognition that the ECS has received. "We have been developing this product over a period of time and the response has been very encouraging," he said. "In order to ensure that the ECS fulfils the criteria that we set out for it - namely, that it offers immediate casualty evacuation for both battlefield and civilian emergency-rescue in a light, strong but extremely compact format - we are working on variants which will be capable of offering a number of additional capabilities in the future.
"We will be using technical textiles, new technologies and composite materials to give our system even more versatility than it has now. It certainly isn’t easy competing with the larger companies, but we have proven that dedicated development and sheer tenacity eventually pays off!"
The ECS (and its military version, the BCS), has been sold in the Middle East and Europe, and is beginning to make inroads into the health and safety sector, where, among other uses, it is being considered as a pre-positioned evacuation system for tall buildings.
Whatever happens when the winners are announced on the 30th November, it is clear Telutami, which already has a number of products under development, will further build its reputation for versatile innovation that works.
