Revision Eyewear, developers of special purpose-built military eyewear, have delivered the first shipment of 4,500 ballistic visor kits, to be fielded in-theatre within the month, against an initial requirement of 15,200 units to the Canadian Forces.
The Canadian forces determined that while spectacles and goggles offer a high degree of ocular protection, there are military applications in which soldiers face high threat situations that require an added layer of protection. The ideal solution is a visor that can be worn over issued military eyewear, Revision's ballistic eyewear. This new visor, developed specifically for Canadian troops, meets all the extremely stringent ballistic and optical standards of the Clothe the Soldier program.
The Ballistic Visor developed by Revision Eyewear, the first of its kind for Canadian military use, is an injection molded, high-impact, optical grade polycarbonate visor that offers improved optical performance while eliminating distortion and wearer eye-strain discomfort. The visor is hard-coated to provide superior abrasion and chemical resistance, and is available in three sizes to fit with in-service helmets. Exhaustive human factors studies and field tests were conducted resulting in a visor with enhanced ballistic protection against fragmenting munitions and debris from high explosive detonation or other explosive devices.
"We are proud to have delivered the first installment of this best-in-class product to the Canadian forces," Jonathan Blanshay, CEO of Revision Eyewear summed up. “Revision has established itself as a leader in protective eyewear technology and continues to advance the science of optical performance and ballistic protection with new and innovative military eyewear products."
Originally developed to interface with the CF's helmet HAK (Helmet Attachment Kit) system which allows the visor to be locked in either the raised or down position, the ballistic visor can be adapted for use with a variety of helmets. The visor comes with a chemical and flame resistant rim gasket to prevent the penetration of liquids between the helmet rim and visor lens assembly. Other accessories in the kit include a center stop component for added stability during operations, and dust covers to blend with either the temperate or arid use uniforms. The ballistic visor comes in a rugged stowage case to protect the lens when not in use.
