Force 21 Equipment has signed three contracts with the Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Defence. The company will supply pixelated camouflage combat uniforms, military vests and military backpacks to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces over the next two to three years.
After signing the contracts, the ministry said: "Combat effectiveness coupled with the need to equip today's soldier for tomorrow's operations are the driving principle for the development of the new RBAF combat uniform and the associated combat soldier's personal equipment."
The camouflage combat uniform uses digital disruptive pattern to replace the existing disruptive pattern material, which was introduced during the RBAF Golden Jubilee in May 2011.
Lee Chew Leng, senior manager at Force 21 Equipment, said: "With recent army technology acquisition, there's a lot of electronic things coming in, so cover and concealment is becoming a priority. You can make a soldier very confident and very fit but you still have to help them feel like they are camouflaged and blend with the surroundings.
"This is how the camouflage pattern came about; it improves the visual concealment for the individual soldier and it's in line with the demand in the region. Everybody's going for the pixelated digital camouflage."
He said the company developed the uniform with the RBAF. "We brought the technical know-how but they provided the individual requirements; that's how we work together."
Lee added that RBAF has already run trials.
