SARATOGA® - the most tested and trusted technologies worldwide
SARATOGA® is a family of air permeable, adsorptive CB protective technologies, specifically designed to meet a wide range of different operational requirements while reducing heat stress and increasing mission capability.
The unparalleled, battle-tested performance of SARATOGA® products is the result of more than 40 years of continuous research and development. SARATOGA® CB protective material systems are based on a unique range of proprietary-activated, carbon spherical adsorbers, specifically engineered for the adsorption of CB warfare agents.
CB protective clothing, made with SARATOGA® materials, has repeatedly been chosen by the most sophisticated and demanding military forces, tactical operators, and weapons inspectors worldwide, after rigorous laboratory and operational testing.
SARATOGA® technology advantages include its unsurpassed adsorptive capacity, long wear time, high degree of air permeability for cooling, optimal balance of high protection and low-heat stress, high-level mechanical stability, and low life cycle costs.
More than ten million SARATOGA® CB protective ensembles delivered internationally are used in all climatic conditions and every major conflict over the last few decades, making SARATOGA® the most tested and trusted CB warfare agent protective technology worldwide.
Military CB protection
In 1990, the US Marine Corps adopted a SARATOGA® CB protective overgarment for use by all of its ground forces. This was followed by the US Air Force's CWU-66/P protective aircrew coverall.
After completing an extremely extensive and demanding qualification program in 1997, the US Department of Defense (USDOD) determined that only the Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology (JSLIST) SARATOGA® ensemble met the requirements for the US Army and all other US ground forces.
In 2001, after a similarly adverse test and evaluation program, the USDOD determined that only another SARATOGA® ensemble, the Joint Protective Aircrew Ensemble (JPACE), met the requirements of all US fixed and rotary wing aircrews.
The USDOD's Central Command (CENTCOM) authorised the use of only SARATOGA® CB protective clothing by all US forces and support elements deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Since then, JSLIST and JPACE have been in constant operational use worldwide.
More than 45 nations worldwide including the US have adopted the SARATOGA® technology for CB protection to date. Over time, this family of products has been diversified in more specialised solutions for different users, applications and environments.
In Soldier Modernisation Programs integration was the main challenge (for example, German IdZ-BS and IdZ-ES, French FELIN or Italian Forza NEC). SARATOGA® Hot Climate Suits provide specialised solutions for extremely hot and / or humid climates. The latest developments incorporate advanced aerosol protection to enhance CB protective performance such as German IdZ-ES and Norway.
CB protection for law enforcement, first responders, and weapons inspectors
Along with the HAMMER Suit®, other lightweight SARATOGA® CB protective duty uniforms have been developed for and fielded by US federal law enforcement agencies. The OPCW international inspectors, as well as several civil defence organisations are equipped with a lightweight SARATOGA® overgarment.
The elite German federal police force GSG 9, the disaster relief organisation Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) and German civil defence organisation Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe (BBK) also rely on individually designed SARATOGA® duty uniforms.
CB protective undergarments
A new generation of light, comfortable, stretch undergarments are currently in use by military forces, EOD teams and law enforcement agencies that benefit from the combination of low profile, excellent wear physiology, and high protection levels.
CB protective hand and footwear
Stretchable SARATOGA® fabrics enabled the development of CBRN protective gloves with significantly higher wearability than currently fielded gloves. SARATOGA® socks made from stretchable, lightweight and durable fabrics in combination with regularly worn combat boots are an ideal replacement of the regular over boots.
Alternatively, SARATOGA® CBRN protective combat boots with an adapted design and an integrated, air permeable, adsorptive and durable liner material, provide a low burden integrated solution.
Fragment protective clothing (FPC)
Expanding the personal protection range beyond CBRN, Blücher has developed a fragment protective material and clothing system against the effects of IEDs. SARATOGA® FPC integrates ballistic fragment protective and cut resistant performance.
A new generation of multifunctional, extremely comfortable, lightweight, air permeable, hydrophilic FPC has been developed. The modular system offers full body protection against fragmentation of the previously unprotected body zones while maintaining full mobility. SARATOGA® FPC closes these gaps, and is complementary to existing personal protection equipment (PPE).
When counting personnel out of action, considering field logistics and medical treatment in cases where comrades are affected, there is a clear requirement for efficient PPE to reduce not only the direct, but also indirect effects. The effects on the human body by IED explosions need to be taken very seriously and full body personal protection is a must.
