Australian DOD Buys Lightweight Chemical Detector

Smiths Detection announces a contract with the Australian Government for LCD3 Lightweight Chemical Detectors, with a value close to £1million. The contract, resulting from an urgent operational requirement, is to be managed by Smiths Detection's Australian representatives Owen International and will see the units delivered in May this year.
Commenting on the order, Bill Mawer, Managing Director of Smiths Detection at Watford said, 'We are delighted with this order. It continues are long relationship with the Australian DoD who already have our CAM Chemical Agent Monitor, GID-2A, and GID-3 in service. This order follows a trend that we are observing since the World Trade Centre attacks. Departments of Defence and Ministries of the Interior overseas are turning to a trusted supplier of chemical and biological defence equipment to meet their requirements, not just for their armed forces but also for their civil defence and for counter terrorism.'
The LCD 3 offers protection and detection to individuals and small groups of people operating outside of the normal detection umbrella provided by items such as the Smiths Detection GID-3 (ACADA). Key to its performance is LCD's base size, weight (485 grammes) and detection capability.
