Remploy Frontline Acknowledges Group Proposals

25 May 2007

Remploy Frontline, the British benchmark CBRN solution specialist and one of the world's leading authorities on CBRN garment protection systems, is acknowledging the announcement of the proposals from Remploy of an ambitious group-wide programme which will lead to a streamlined production-capacity and enhanced opportunities for increased output.

ASSISTANCE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE TO GAIN MAINSTREAM EMPLOYMENT

Remploy Frontline is a division of Remploy, the UK's leading provider of employment services for disabled people. The group as a whole has announced proposals to quadruple the number of people it helps into work over the next five years (Remploy Group press announcement, the 22nd of May 2007). The ambitious programme involves the transfer of resources from some sites, including the closure of 32 factories, as part of a renewed group focus to help more than 20,000 disabled people a year gain jobs in mainstream employment.

Paul Dunderdale, general manager for Remploy Frontline, commented: "Following the group's announcement regarding its proposals of a shift in employment focus, we wish to confirm that the programme will allow us to streamline our production capacity and create more opportunities for flexible, enhanced output.

"The global market for CBRN protection technology has expanded at a phenomenal rate in the last few years, and Remploy Frontline has risen to the challenge, creating highly specified products, some of which have rewritten the established protection protocol in response to the evolving global threat."

NO COMPULSORY REDUNDANCY FOR THE DISABLED

In total Remploy as a group employs more than 6,500 people and operates 83 factories across Britain. Around 2,270 disabled people and 280 non-disabled employees are affected by the changes.

No disabled person will be made compulsorily redundant and any disabled person who wishes to continue working can do so, on their current Remploy terms and conditions, but with another local employer.

As part of the programme, Remploy will be opening facilities where disabled people will have access to a range of services and support to prepare them for work in mainstream employment. By the end of 2007, the company will have opened 20 town-centre recruitment branches. The group would expect to be in a position to implement the final plan towards the end of the year.

CUSTOMISED CBRN PRODUCTS

"Remploy Frontline is proud to devise tailor-made solutions for the world's leading military and civil agencies – including the British MoD, the British police and the Northern Ireland fire and rescue service – and as well as expanding our UK customer base, we are undertaking a significant global growth programme which is strategically extending our capability across the USA, Australia, south-east Asia, the Middle East and Europe," concluded Dunderdale. "The internal changes proposed by the group will not have any negative impact on our division's capabilities, and they will ultimately help us to achieve steady commercial long-term growth."
