Portsmouth Aviation - NBC Air Filtration Units and Systems

Portsmouth Aviation Limited is a significant defence equipment company specialising in Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) air filtration units and systems. We have supplied NBC collective protection systems for the Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom and also to Chile, Brazil, India, Canada and Denmark.

Portsmouth Aviation also supplies NBC systems for buildings and mail handling protective systems. The Company principally supports the NBC radial filter unit and the No. 6 and No. 7 air filtration unit but is also able to provide a range of smaller volume filters for vehicles, command and control vans and mobile facilities on request.

NBC RADIAL FILTER UNIT

The NBC radial filter unit has been designed to integrate with the minimum of change into new build or existing structures. The element conforms to STANAG 4447 ensuring common support across NATO.

The NBC radial filter consists of a HEPA filter, for the removal of bacteria and other pathogens, and a gas filter which removes chemical and radiac warfare agents in the form of gases or vapours by adsorption to the activated charcoal filling.

This system can be supplied either fully automated or with varying degrees of automation. It can be remotely started from a central control system ensuring that it is fully operational in a very short period of time.

NO. 6 AND NO. 7 AIR FILTRATION UNITS

The No. 6 and No. 7 air filtration units are completely self-contained and provide an easily installed NBC capability by connecting to existing air ventilation systems and electrical supplies.

The No. 6 and No. 7 air filtration units have a maximum airflow rate of 340m³/hr. The air filtration unit consists of a pre-filter, removing coarse particulate matter, including larger particles of nuclear fallout. The second stage is a HEPA filter, which removes fine particulate matter, including bacteria and finally a gas filter that removes chemical and radiac warfare agents.

NBC PROTECTION - MAIL HANDLING UNIT

The NBC protection mail-handling unit provides enhanced protection for mail operatives handling vulnerable mail. Based on in-service, military specification CBRN filters, the mail-handling unit handles up to 10,000 letters per eight-hour shift.

Extraction has been designed to prevent contamination coming into contact with the mail operative. The NBC protection mail-handling unit is based on a standard ISO container that can be isolated in the event of contamination.
