The Razor Ex is a hand-held instrument used for detecting threats in the field. The ruggedised advanced pathogen identification device (RAPID) is a biothreat detection device. Its design and open platform make it well suited for mobile labs and mobile hospitals. FilmArray raises the bar for ease-of-use by integrating sample prep, DNA amplification, detection and analysis into a single instrument that requires only two minutes of operator hands-on time.

Biothreat detection systems for frontline military troops

The Razor Ex biothreat detection system provides the most reliable and sensitive field biothreat detection capability that is easy to use. Designed specifically for use in the field, the Razor Ex's compact and lightweight design make it easy to carry. A minimal amount of sample preparation is needed beforehand, which makes it easy to use.

It is powered by a lithium-ion battery, or AC power, and uses freeze-dried reagents which make Razor Ex a complete field solution independent of any external power requirements. Used with the ten target screen kit, the Razor Ex simultaneously tests ten pathogens with reliable DNA-based results available in less than 30 minutes.

Created for first responders and frontline military troops, the Razor Ex is easy to operate while working in protective equipment under extreme conditions. The ruggedised instrument includes Bluetooth capabilities, a bar code reader and an easy to read colour screen.

The Razor Ex utilises Idaho Technology's patented reagent pouch system which is comprised of integrated freeze-dried reagents packaged in durable plastic pouches for incomparable ease of use. A variety of pre-formatted pouch configurations are available for bioterrorism, food screening, or water testing applications.

Fully automated biothreat identification systems for pandemic disease surveillance

Designed for fixed lab use, the FilmArray biosurveillance system's multi-use capability detects bioterrorism threats in environmental samples or patient samples and is utilised for pandemic disease surveillance.

The fully automated FilmArray integrates advanced sample preparation with sensitive PCR technology within a compact, easy-to-use instrument. Minimal hands-on time or training is required to operate the FilmArray. All that is needed is to hydrate the assay pouch, inject the unknown sample and load it into the instrument.

The FilmArray automatically processes the sample, analyses the data and provides a positive or negative response in one hour. The biothreat pouch, used with the FilmArray, contains 25 assays covering Category A and B bioterrorism pathogens.

Also available for testing soldier health or pandemic disease surveillance is a FDA-cleared respiratory disease panel that contains 15 viral targets. Target pathogens contain multiple assays, each run in triplicate to provide high-confidence results.
