Significant Contract With the Finnish Defense Forces Awarded to Environics Oy

27 August 2007 15:05

The Finnish Defense Forces have awarded Environics Oy with a significant contract for the Light CBRN reconnaissance vehicle project after a heavily competed open international bidding process.

The contract covers the manufacture of the vehicle prototype with manufacture options and the contract value with the options is approximately €15 million.

During the project, Environics will be pioneering a next-generation CBRN reconnaissance vehicle concept which is based on a light, off-road vehicle. The vehicle has a wide range of measurement and analysis equipment and is ballistic-shielded and protected against the effects of NBC-materials. Other countries have also been interested in similar undertakings to replace or add to the older and heavier reconnaissance vehicles, so the contract is very significant opening for international markets as well.

"The selection of Environics after a difficult competition containing both Finnish and foreign international manufacturers is a notable indication of the fact that we are able to compete in the international markets. Delivery and maintenance capability, NBC expertise and experience as well as a competitive pricing were important strengths of Environics in the selection process. The project is internationally a significant opening.

"Many other countries are moving towards these fully protected, off-road capable, light vehicles and the project in question is the first open RFP to go to procurement in international markets in which there has been extremely hard competition. Because of this, the awarded contract is a very significant reference for us in export as well as of our partnership with the Finnish Defense Forces", states Environics Oy Executive Vice President, Jyrki Huttunen.
