Spectrum Signal Processing - Software Defined Radio

Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima, part of Vecima Networks, is a leading developer of software defined radio (SDR) solutions for communications and intelligence gathering applications including rugged and semi-rugged military communications and modem solutions for infrastructure.

Rugged and semi-rugged military communication radios

Spectrum designs and develops a wide range of rugged and semi-rugged military communication radios. These include:

  • Rugged modem solutions for data links, tactical MILCOM and MILSATCOM
  • Semi-rugged modem solutions for gateways, infrastructure
  • Satellite communications including satellite earth stations (gateways, terminals and hubs)

Spectrum also provide modem systems for infrastructure, and our products can serve these other markets:

  • Signals intelligence
  • Electronic warfare
  • Radar / sonar
  • Industrial computing

Spectrum's integrated, application-ready products provide customers with compelling time-to-market and performance advantages while reducing both program risk and cost.

Rugged software-defined radio

Spectrum's rugged software-defined radio solutions range from signal processing boards to reconfigurable radio subsystems that can be tailored to meet unique end-user requirements. Spectrum's rapid-prototyping and deployment platforms accelerate customers' development by providing integrated hardware, software and firmware systems along with application-specific software examples.

Spectrum's modified commercial-off-the-shelf (MCOTS) process can then transition customers from laboratory and prototype systems into field-ready production units, optimized for the size, weight, power and ruggedness requirements of the deployment environment.

These products are complemented by domain-specific applications engineering services, comprehensive training and technical support services and product lifecycle, and component / configuration management services that can accelerate customers' design initiatives and sustain Spectrum products throughout their deployment.

SDR transceiver platforms

Spectrum's flexComm products are the building blocks for your specific signal processing requirements. Spectrum offers high performance, scalable, rugged and semi-rugged SDR transceiver platforms that can get you from development to deployment of your applications for harsh or benign environments.

Spectrum's range of solutions includes:

  • Embedded radio modules: the SDR-4800 family is based on system-on-chip (SoC) and embedded RF technology
  • Application-specific platforms: turnkey "RF/IF to Ethernet" solutions for rapid deployment
  • 3U cPCI solutions: the SDR-4000 is ideal for size, weight and power constrained applications with optional early support for JTRS MHAL APIs for qualified customers
  • 6U cPCI solutions: the SDR-3000 is ideal for applications requiring high channel count
  • PCI/PCI-X solutions: the SDR-2000 offers a low-priced platform ideal for development
  • SDR for VME: the HCDR-1000 is an excellent fit for legacy technology insertion
  • Waveforms: physical layer implementations of military communications (MILCOM) and satellite communications (SATCOM) waveforms including key US Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JTRS) and NATO waveforms

General-purpose signal processing systems

For industrial high data rate, high processing density applications, Spectrum offers general-purpose signal processing systems.

Mix-and-match SDR hardware and software

Spectrum's mix-and-match hardware and software modules provide a platform tailored to meet your stringent requirements. This approach allows upgradeability or modification to the platform in the future, while protecting the bulk of your application software code base. Spectrum's software-reconfigurable platforms feature:

  • Heterogeneous processing - a combination of FPGAs, PowerPCs and DSPs, each optimized for different types of algorithms
  • Optimized communications infrastructure - different datapaths for different data types - serial RapidIO, switched Ethernet, local PCI bus
  • Layered software stack - choose your level of code portability / hardware performance; increase code portability and hardware abstraction with quicComm API, CORBA, TCP/IP, VSIPL, SCA core framework

Use Spectrum's software development tools, system integration and applications engineering services for rapid prototyping of your custom application.
