Rapid Mobile - HF Data Modem Units and Modules

Rapid Mobile (RapidM) was established in July 2001 to focus solely on the development of core HF radio modems, 2G Automatic Link Establishment (ALE), 3G ALE, and HF e-mail software products and services. Since its inception, RapidM has built up significant technical competency in the wireless modem field.

Rapid Mobile (RapidM) specialises in the design and manufacture of HF data modems for man-pack, naval and airborne applications. Our end users include military organisations and government organisations, requiring secure, satellite-independent, long-range communication systems and equipment.

RapidM’s products are compliant with the following HF modem standards: STANAG 4539, STANAG 4285, STANAG 4415, MIL-STD-188-110A/B, STANAG 5066, MIL-STD-188-141B and MIL-STD-188-141A.

HIGH-SPEED HF MODEM WAVEFORMS

Data is transferred at rates of up to 9,600b/s full-duplex over a standard 3kHz HF radio link, and 19k2 over an Independent Side Band (ISB) link.

Adaptive equalisation mitigates the effects of HF channel multi-path. Convolution encoding combined with soft-decision Viterbi decoding provides forward error correction. Cancellation of narrowband co-channel interference is accomplished via adaptive tone excision capable of eliminating up to four signals.

RM6 HF MODEM AND ALE CONTROLLER UNIT

The RM6 is a JITC-certified external High Speed Data (HSD) modem unit. The RM6 is designed to operate in conjunction with an external STANAG 5066 compliant ARQ server, for example RapidM’s RC66 HF email suite.

The RM6 is intended for installation into 19in rack systems. RapidM provides a PC Graphical User Interface (GUI) for remote-control purposes.

The unit operates in temperatures from -30°C to +70°C and accommodates 110VAC to 250VAC and 40Hz to 440Hz supply. A MIL-STD-1275B certified 7VDC to 36VDC supply option is available.

2G-ALE, signal detection and HF/VHF voice gateway options are built-in and can be activated with the appropriate RapidM licence key. For more information on these functions, please approach RapidM for a brochure.

RM4 HF MODEM AND ALE CONTROLLER UNIT

For applications that do not require the full feature set of the RM6 the physically smaller RM4 unit offers excellent performance at a reduced price. The RM4 does not offer a front panel and does not support 2-ISB operation. The RM4 can be powered from either a 110VAC to 250VAC or a MIL-STD-1275B certified 7VDC to 36VDC supply.

TC6 AND TC4 HF MODEM AND ALE CONTROLLER MODULES

These embedded modules combine amazing processing power and massive memory (32MB) with the real-world constraints of low-power, MIL temperature range, small size and standardised interfaces.

The TC4 module is more compact than the high-performance TC6 module and is intended for mobile and man-pack applications.

2G-ALE OPTION

Embedded ALE allows linking with other HF stations without operator intervention. A number of frequencies can be used to overcome variable HF propagation conditions. 2G-ALE is available as a software option on all RapidM modems.

RC66 STANAG 5066 E-MAIL GATEWAY

The RC66 software suite sends and receives e-mails error free over HF radio and the internet. It complies with STANAG 5066 ARQ. The RC66 software is designed for Windows™ NT, 2000 and XP platforms.
