Tewkesbury, UK – L-3 Communications TRL Technology (L-3 TRL), a division of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL), launched its latest rapidly deployable satellite monitoring solution, the MARLIN, at stand number E70 at IDEX 2007, held in Abu Dhabi from 18-22 February.
Designed to monitor both global and regional satellite systems, the MARLIN enables traffic between mobile terminals and the satellite to be monitored imperceptibly, operating in line of sight and radio range of the target. It is the latest in L-3 TRL's long line of successful strategic and portable satellite-monitoring solutions, which are deployed around the world as critical elements in counter-terrorism and homeland security operations.
The MARLIN is based on L-3 TRL's groundbreaking demodulator technology, and takes portable satellite monitoring to a new level of fast, flexible deployment. Control is via an intuitive windows-based GUI, with incoming calls displayed in real-time. Voice is played via a laptop computer, with each side of the call played back on either channel of the stereo output.
Comprehensive software, enabling a number of fax and data protocols to be decoded and displayed, is included as part of the GUI, which is designed for maximum ease of use and immediate operational familiarity. Information relating to the identification of called and calling parties is recorded, along with the geographical location – depending on service type and network.
Contained in lightweight travel cases, the system comprises a laptop, satellite and target antennae, a portable monitoring, AC mains and vehicular power supplies. The MARLIN can intercept up to six calls simultaneously, monitoring a wide range of Inmarsat networks, including B, M, Mini-M and GAN. It also supports the continuous monitoring of voice, fax and data on up to three spot-beams on the Thuraya network.
L-3 TRL's portfolio includes advanced strategic and portable satellite-monitoring systems, designed for fixed-site and mobile deployment, across existing and evolving satellite services. Enabling voice and data recovery, its solutions are supported by comprehensive software tools for real-time and offline analysis, as well as target acquisition.
L-3 TRL's satellite monitoring systems allow security agencies to recover data in the process of being exchanged, without targets being aware of the interception. Based on the company's long-standing, sophisticated, satellite-modem technology, its satellite-monitoring solutions are widely deployed around the world by government intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
