AWACS

INTRACOM Defense Electronics (IDE) has signed an agreement with Boeing for participation in the upgrade programme of Nato Airborne Warning & Control System (AWACS) aircraft in the frame of an international tender.

The contract is worth up to $2.5million. It will see IDE manufacture specialised subsystems of AWACS aircraft.

Deliveries of these will be completed by mid-2017.

The CNS / ATM upgrade programme (Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/ Air Traffic Management) gives emphasis on digital flight deck. It also concentrates upon avionics that provide for future growth and enhanced operation, safety and reliability, while reducing life cycle costs.

The programme was initiated by the Nato Programme Management Organization (NAPMO), however Boeing is the prime contractor of the project.

Boeing’s original planning provides its implementation in other early warning aircraft of the same type.
