Innovative Concepts, Inc. releases new version incorporating additional protocol and operating system compatibility
McLean, Virginia -- January 2, 2003 -- Innovative Concepts, Inc., a communications technology development firm with proven technical capabilities and a reputation for excellence, announces the general availability release of PCIDM™ V2.60. PCIDM™ V2.60 will help customers maintain their previous PCIDM™ capabilities and expand into new functionality, such as the addition of the Intra-flight Data Link (IDL) protocol and Enhanced Linux support. The V2.60 release is a free flash upgrade to registered owners of PCIDM™ V2 Level PC-Cards.
The PCIDM™ is a low cost, portable alternative to the Avionics IDM Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). It is comprised of a single Type 2 Extended PCMCIA card, paired with a full software development kit for Windows, Linux and Solaris and application software for Windows 98/NT/ME/2000/XP. The protocols available with the PCIDM™ are the same protocols used in the avionics version of the IDM providing fully certified interoperability with any Innovative Concepts, Inc. designed IDM Technology™ Product.
With a PCIDM™ and a computer the user can send and receive AFAPD, Tacfire, MTS, IDL and JVMF messages over the air using many common military radios communicating with most systems that support the same message sets.
Intra-Flight Data Link (IDL)
The introduction of IDL capabilities into the PCIDM™ software provides for near real time position awareness between 16 aircraft or ground units. The IDL messages include lat/long information, velocity, velocity vector and up to two selected ground targets thus giving the unit commander a real time picture of where all aircraft or ground units are located. IDL capabilities are now implemented and in use on Block 40 and Block 50 Air Force F16s. The addition of IDL provides a TACP or other ground operative, the ability to maintain near real time F-16 position situational awareness.
Enhanced Linux Support
The PCIDM™ V2.60 can be integrated into a host running a Linux operating system. This allows the PCIDM™ users yet another alternative to integrating IDM Technology™ beyond the use of the current supported platforms: Windows 98/NT/ME/2000/XP.
Due to the nature of Linux's functionality and availability, it has become quite prevalent worldwide. Therefore a vast number of software programmers have taken Linux's source code and tailored it to meet their individual needs.
