Innovative Concepts, Inc. to provide IP routing capabilities for the new JTRS compatible Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio (MBITR) Hand Held Radio.
McLean, VA – May 19, 2003 -- Innovative Concepts, Inc. was selected by Thales Communications, Inc. of Clarksburg, MD to embed SCA 2.2 compliant IDM Technology™ into the MBITR AN/PRC-148 hand held radio. This version of the MBITR will be Thales’ first JTRS offering.
The JTRS program is a DOD initiative and is designed to provide a new approach to meet diverse warfighter communications needs through software programmable radio technology. The intent is to provide seamless real-time communications among warfighters -- through voice, data, and video -- with and across the U.S. military services, and with coalition forces and allies. In this JTRS initiative, the MBITR hand held radio will be modified for JTRS Software Communication Architecture (SCA) compliance. In a ruggedized package weighing less than two pounds, the MBITR provides unprecedented interoperability with existing military systems and commercial radios, while ensuring future operation with the next generation of communication equipment.
Innovative Concepts, Inc. has been tasked to develop IP routing capabilities in accordance with MIL-STD-188-220B compatible with the Army’s Tactical Internet and Fire Support networks. This capability gives every soldier access to the Tactical Internet allowing them to pass battle command and situation awareness data across the integrated battlespace communications network. This additional router capability is also compatible with existing FBCB2 software making it a viable alternate to the current IP router capabilities of the SINCGARS network. Based on current fielding plans, Innovative Concepts, Inc. values this contract at over $5 Million.
