SCA Compatible Software Defined Radio Running First Time in Finland

Finnish Software Radio Programme has achieved a very important milestone on January 12th 2005. Elektrobit Ltd, the prime contractor of the programme, demonstrated first time a Software Communication Architecture (SCA) compatible radio platform with new adaptive wideband waveforms. During the demonstration a Tactical Positioning Waveform and Core Framework compatible to SCA 2.2 were launched on top of the radio platform.
Finnish Software Radio Programme develops Tactical Radio Communication System with partly COTS based radio platform as well as Adaptive Wideband Networking Waveform, Tactical Positioning System and Adaptive Antenna System. Radio platform consist of commercial components and proprietary units. Elektrobit has created its own system architecture and designed units in addition to commercial platform to maximise the system capacity. Software development work forms a major portion of the programme. Elektrobit will deliver the complete demonstrator to Finnish Defence Forces on August 2005.
SCA is a key technology in next generation military radios. SCA provides waveform and platform compatibility, scalability and modularity. “Third party waveforms on third party platforms” is a major guideline in future radio systems and will help users to find optimised solution for every application.
