The US Navy has awarded Boldon James a contract to support their plan to send messages over email and Web-based communications. Earlier this year, the US Navy announced that it will be phasing out the use of their defence message system (DMS) for a majority of command administrative communications, known as official information exchange (OIX).
The project is being led by Navy Cyber Forces (CYBERFOR), with a goal of increasing efficiency and saving costs by using widely-used communication tools, such as unclassified email and other web-based applications.
"The naval messaging format that has been in use for many years has become expensive and time consuming," said James McCarty, CYBERFOR's naval message assistant program manager. "The Boldon James software provides the critical elements of service that are currently missing from the standard email environment."
"We're delighted to be part of this critical project for US Navy, especially as it validates our belief that military message handling can be provided without the need for expensive, proprietary development or decade-long projects," said Brett Gribble, VP sales and marketing, Boldon James.
"By taking this command email approach with us, the Navy will be able to use existing architecture and eliminate redundant architecture associated with specialised messaging programs."
