Military message handling system

The SAFEmail military message handling system is a modular suite of Microsoft Outlook and Exchange components, which supports conformance to the latest versions of formal 'high-grade' military messaging standards, including STANAG 4406, ACP120, ACP123 and S/MIME-ESS.

Uniquely, SAFEmail also offers a fully interoperable, simplified interface for medium and basic-grade messaging. SAFEmail is proven to meet the demands of operational usage and provides compliance with the latest standards from organisations such as Nato and the CCEB.

Security labelling for Microsoft Office files

Our SAFEoffice system allows users to add security labels (protective marking) to Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets and presentations. SAFEoffice stores the label inside machine-readable document properties, as well as in a user-readable text format.

Enterprise Address Book for Microsoft Outlook

Enterprise Address Book is an enhancement to Microsoft Outlook, which provides users with a powerful and flexible address book for searching multiple or very large and complex directories. With the international interoperability required in defence environments, users within disparate organisations need to find and email each other, often without any major infrastructure integration. Enterprise address book allows such organisations to quickly establish visibility of users in the other parts of the combined entity.

Network gateways and guards

We also supply a range of guards and gateways that meet a variety of network-enabled capability (NEC) requirements, including:

• ACP145 gateway: secures email exchange between different military message-handling systems
• Multi-function gateway: provides gateway and guard functionality for deployment at the boundary of messaging systems
• SyBard: guards for controlled sharing of sensitive information

X.400 support for Microsoft Exchange

With Exchange 2007 (and beyond), Microsoft have removed support for the ITU X.400 protocols. The Boldon James X.400 Bridgehead extends the capabilities of the Microsoft Exchange server to provide full X.400 functionality. This functionality includes extensions to provide an X.400-compliant MTA carrying full military messaging content to support STANAG 4406/ACP123 protocols and requirements.

X.500 high-performance directory server

Defence Directory is an X.500 high-performance directory server that has been designed to comply with standards defined in ACP133 (Allied Communications Protocol). ACP133 defines the directory services, architecture, protocols, schema, policies and procedures to support messaging communications between allied nations, including Nato and the CCEB.

Defence Directory can operate as a full X.500 DSA (directory system agent) as well as providing LDAP access. It supports the X.500 DAP (directory access protocol), DSP (sirectory system protocol) and DISP (directory information shadowing protocol) protocols and can be used as a standalone X.500 service, or to provide a configuration database for use in a military message handling system. Defence Directory offers high performance, superior scalability (over ten million entries) and flexible management.

Low-bandwidth routing and prioritisation messaging system

Tactical Messenger provides data compression, manages message priority and precedence, and can intelligently manage message queues, interrupting low priority messages to ensure delivery of the most important first.

Security-labelled instant messaging chat

SAFE IM for XMPP is a protectively marked (security labelled) instant messaging (IM) chat solution that provides protectively marked IM one-to-one chat, group (multi-user) chat and file transfer. It offers clearance checking at two levels: session clearance checking to ensure the user is cleared to read the labelled chat message and chatroom clearance checking to ensure the user is cleared to obtain access to a labelled chatroom.

SAFE IM for XMPP can be integrated with SAFEoffice so that when a user chooses to file transfer a Microsoft Office document that has been labelled using SAFEoffice, the document label will automatically be applied to the file transfer process. It can also be integrated with Isode M-Link XMPP server and QinetiQ SyBard XMPP Guard.
