Allen-Vanguard (Formerly PW Allen)

Remote RF Initiator Fires Up

19 January 2007 15:03

Allen-Vanguard, world leader in internal security, has expanded its range of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) tools with the addition of the remote RF initiator firing system.

The remote RF initiator firing system is a lightweight and deployable wireless device that is able to initiate explosive charges and disruptors at up to 1,500m (5,000ft). Using a secure wireless radio link, the command unit transmitter can trigger up to five charges, either independently or simultaneously.

One of Allen-Vanguard's latest products, this durable and portable system is constructed of rugged watertight aluminium weighing no more than 1kg. Each remote initiator is supplied with interchangeable electric and shock tube firing adaptors as standard. The command unit has more than eight hours mission life in ready mode, and comes at a competitive price that makes the system ideal for special operations.

Developed to ensure the safety of users in the field, the system is fitted with various security features. The RF communications allow up to five remote initiators to be triggered only by a matching CDED command unit. To prevent accidental initiation in the event of a loss of communication, low battery or a cancelled firing sequence, the system automatically cuts out for 60 seconds before the command sequence can be re-initiated.

Roy Peers-Smith, managing director of Allen-Vanguard, explains: "With terrorist activities increasing, there is a corresponding rise in the need for effective bomb disposal tools. Allen-Vanguard has therefore designed the flexible, user friendly and extremely safe remote RF initiator firing system to help field operatives efficiently diffuse a highly dangerous threat situation without unnecessarily endangering lives."
