Chemring EOD Showcases New Product at Counter Terror ExhibitionChemring Technology Solutions
Chemring EOD will be launching a new improvised explosive device (IED) defeat system at the Counter Terror Exhibition at Olympia, London, on 25-26 April 2012.
Chemring EOD, based in Poole, deliver a comprehensive range of counter threat solutions, in both military and civil environments, and will be launching a new IED defeat system known as WASP at this event.
WASP is a next generation lightweight disruptor system designed to deliver optimum disruptive effect to a wide range of IEDs. It is made of lightweight material and is therefore lighter than existing systems thus providing users a significant weight advantage. It projects water at high velocity, in order to dynamically separate the key components of an IED. As such, it offers a high probability of avoiding detonation or explosion of the device.
WASP is powered by an electrically initiated cartridge and can be fired using radio initiation systems such as the Chemring EOD FRED system or by the use of firing cable. It comes complete with an accessories pack and can easily be incorporated into an EOD back pack for Assault IEDD operations.
Head of business development at Chemring EOD, Mike Luedicke, said: "The introduction of WASP is a welcome addition to our portfolio of IED disruptors. WASP has been specifically designed to meet the needs of EOD operators where the pace of operations requires a minimal weight burden but still requires a reliable IED disruption system."
