Omnis Spectrum Range Increases With the Addition of the Omnis Spectrum W

18 July 2007

The Omnis Spectrum W is a Light Armoured Personnel Carrier (LAPC) equipped with or without an RF jamming system. The vehicle is ideally used as a troop carrier, an ambulance or a mobile command centre.

The Spectrum W is a heavily armoured crew carrier, which combines the best of both worlds – a commercial truck's speed and manoeuvrability, and APC-like armour using double skin 12mm ballistic steel. Amoured to B7 specification and specifically designed to withstand off-route Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's). These features make it ideal for low-intensity confrontations where agility is as vital as vehicle integrity.

To combat Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) threats the vehicle is equipped with a radio frequency jamming system as standard. The durable, high powered UHF/VHF low frequency and cellular/satellite radio frequency jammers can operate in barrage, continuous and simultaneous modes, providing complete spectrum jamming.

The Spectrum W chassis is based on a Ford F-550 truck, and is equipped with a six litre V8 engine, outputting 325 BHP. The engine is mated to a five speed automatic transmission, which drives all four wheels.

The three tons of added armour is not critical to the Spectrum W's overall weight since its maximum load is eight tons. And since no major changes have been done to the chassis, except the addition of armour, the vehicle does not suffer from engine overheating or handling problems.
