Marshall Land Systems - Specialist Vehicles, Protected Workspaces and Unmanned Vehicles

Marshall Land Systems (MLS) specialises in defence vehicle and shelter design, manufacture, integration and product support. MLS has three major components: Marshall Specialist Vehicles (MSV) design and produce shelters and specialist vehicles, Marshall Vehicle Engineering (MVE) manufacture military vehicle load beds, and a specialist design division Marshall Systems Design Group (MSDG), which specialises in unattended vehicles (UAVs and UGVs) and carries out UOR work, EOD, EMI, EMC, safety cases and consultancy. Core to the company’s activities are its project management, agility in responding to customer requirements, attention to quality and integrity.

MLS is part Marshall Group, a large (£750M) family owned independent group of companies involved in the automotive, aerospace and land systems areas. Headquartered in Cambridge, UK, Marshall Group can trace its history back to 1909.

Military shelters and vehicle bodies

MSV specialises in the design, development, integration and delivery of specialist shelters and vehicle bodies for military and security force deployments. There are a number of agile solutions within the MSV ground and vehicle shelter portfolio and the company can also provide bespoke solutions.

MSV shelters and vehicle solutions are designed to withstand the harshest environmental conditions from the very hot to the very cold and in particular to keep dust and contamination out. These attributes are part of a full suite that includes blast and ballistic, CBRN, EMP, EMC, EMI protection and compliance.

These shelters have been used for; medical and hospital applications, ground control stations for UAV's and Satellites, communications hubs and command centres and specialist workshop applications such as the UK MoD's deployable machine shop and CBRN incident response units.

Military vehicle and load-bed building

MVE is the specialist vehicle and load-bed building arm. Based in a purpose developed factory MVE specialises in the design and manufacture of load beds for volume production for cross country vehicles for military and other specialist users.

Employing the very latest design and engineering techniques MVE has over 50 years experience in the production of specialist military vehicles. MVE uses the latest production techniques including robotic welding and e-dipping to maintain a constant programmed supply of high quality load beds to programme, quality and cost requirements.

MVE's design capability means it is the design authority for many vehicles, variants and ancillaries in service around the world. These include fire fighting, troop transport and recovery vehicles, specialist load beds and armoured protective systems for military logistic vehicles.

Marshall Systems Design Group (MSDG) – unattended vehicles (UGVs and UAVs) UOR work, EOD, EMI, EMC, safety cases and consultancy

MSDG is the consulting and niche-skills arm of MLS. It has specialist skills in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), electro magnetic pulse (EMP), electro magnetic compatibility (EMC), electro magnetic interference (EMI), chemical biological radiological and nuclear (CBRN) and Safety.

MSDG has particular skills in autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) where it is supplemented by MLS's skills in ground stations and fleet and customer support.

It assists customers responding to UORs with consultancy and rapid prototyping. More in-depth studies and long term support contracts allow considerable interaction with the user community to allow best practice and effective solutions to be combined to deliver the right solution for the user. MSDG acts as technical adviser to the customer community, providing programme and technical skills to assist with supplier selection, and on-time and on-cost delivery of technically complex programmes.

Customer Support – through-life capability management

MLS provides a comprehensive through life capability management function to underpin all its activities. The customer support team provides assistance to understand capability needs from conception to final disposal and recycling and where appropriate replacement and for capabilities covering Marshall’s products and other companies’ products.
