Saab - Fire Control Systems

Saab offers fire-control systems, integrated command and control system solutions and civil security solutions, along with further development and adaptations of existing command and control systems.

UTAAS COMBAT VEHICLE FIRE-CONTROL SYSTEM

The Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS), is a gyro-stabilised night and day fire-control system for combat vehicles, providing high hit-probability against ground targets, helicopters and fast attack aircraft. It has been sold to more than 1,000 Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) units.

UTAAS is a versatile, modular fire-control system offering a variety of performance options and integration with different C3 systems. The following facets are provided:

  • High hit-probability against all ground targets and helicopters
  • Simple operating principles and user-friendly MMI
  • Easy maintenance
  • A variety of performance options and upgrading possibilities
  • Good system-stability as the optical path for all channels goes through the same aperture
  • Laser rangefinder can be of normal or low-hazard type to suit operational needs

A wide range of thermal imagers can be integrated into the system.

TRACKFIRE PANORAMIC SIGHT AND REMOTE WEAPON STATION

The Trackfire RWS is a gyro-stabilised electro-optical panoramic sight and remote weapon station. Its modular design allows the sensor suite to be tailored both to specific customer requirements, and to suit different applications (such as fire control, commander's sight, forward observer instrument and sight for controlling missiles).

Compact and versatile, this panoramic sight and remote weapon station system comprises a sight, operator console, video tracker, and system electronics. The sight consists of a two-axis, armour-protected platform. All sensors – including CCD cameras, thermal imagers and laser rangefinders – are mounted on the platform.

CUSTOMISABLE REMOTE WEAPON STATION

Trackfire RWS is a modular system and can be customised for various weapon systems and integrated with different C3I systems. The following facets are provided:

  • High hit-probability against all ground targets and helicopters
  • Simple operating principles and user-friendly MMI
  • Easy maintenance
  • A variety of performance options and upgrading possibilities
  • Good system stability
  • Optional normal or low-hazard laser rangefinders to suit operational needs
  • A wide range of CCD cameras and thermal imagers that can be integrated in the system

PLSS-RWS SENSOR AND WEAPON SYSTEM

The PLSS-RWS is a stabilised and remotely operated sensor and weapon system on a retractable mast. Designed to provide significantly enhanced situational-awareness and protection, the system is well-suited to operating in urban environments.

Technologically advanced yet durable, the system comprises a sensor and weapon platform, a retractable mast, system electronics, an operator console and a video tracker. The weapon mount and sensor suite can be tailored to specific customer requirements. The stabilised sensor and weapon platform is a further-developed version of the PLSS sight platform.

VEHICLE-BASED BATTLEFIELD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The computerised Vehicle-based Battlefield Management System (VBMS), assists MBT / AFV commanders to make faster, better and more-informed decisions based on all relevant data from a combat radio network, fire-control system and – where available – integrated warning sensors. Features include the following:

  • One single display unit both for tactical information and images from all available sensors
  • The currently most-dangerous enemy can be quickly identified and effective action taken against it

The VBMS creates an integrated command and control environment comprising major subsystems such as a navigation system, fire-control system, combat radio, video from thermal imagers and TV cameras, driver's display, vehicle support system, and sensor and countermeasure system.
