Zeppelin Catches Big Portion in Major Army Project of German Land Forces

07 January 2007

The project FüInfoSys (Führungs- und Informationssystem – Command and Information System) is by far the largest project that has been issued by the German Land Forces over the last decade.

Zeppelin has been contracted as supplier of 275 communication shelters in the project (ACE I + II) and a further number of 250 communication shelters mounted on a Mercedes Unimog chassis (U 4000). All shelter types are high-frequency shielded with an attenuation level of 60dB between a frequency range of 100 kHz - 1 GHz. In addition to that the shelters are NBC tight. The Unimog program has to be completed by the end of 2009 while the ACE shelters run until 2011.

Zeppelin has been the supplier of this kind of equipment to the German Armed Forces for more than 20 years with a total number of 8,000 shelters delivered. After having been in service in various peacekeeping missions (e.g. Bosnia, Kosovo), a part of these shelters is now coming back for refurbishment. After that, the shelters can easily be used for another 15 years. This gives the Zeppelin-Shelter® an overall lifetime of more than 30 years.
