Uniteam International builds Civilian Police Stations in Darfur, Sudan

27 April 2007 11:25

In 2005 Uniteam International signed a contract with the African Union for the construction of 30 civilian police stations in Darfur. The African Union has the mandate for peacekeeping in the area and operates under the title African Union Mission In Sudan (AMIS). The project was successfully completed, despite problems caused by the ongoing war.

In November 2006, Uniteam International signed a contract to carry out upgrading work on the police stations, and the work in currently ongoing. This involves – amongst other improvements – increasing the security by erecting a solid fence; building a double mobile latrine; and replacing the generator. We are still experiencing problems and difficulties due to the volatile situation and acts of war throughout the region, but we are slowly moving forward and hope to complete the project this summer.
