ScanShield - Rapidly Deployable System for Ballistic Protection of Containers and BuildingsScanShield is a dynamic and innovative company which develops military protective equipment. ScanShield recently designed and constructed a new ballistic protection system for the erection of protective constructions for containers and buildings. BALLISTIC PROTECTION OF CONTAINERS AND BUILDINGSScanShield offers a unique and rapidly deployable system for ballistic protection of containers and buildings. The system consists of two elements: a specially designed tarpaulin (Coverit) and a rack mount (Rackit). The system is adaptable to the different situations of urban warfare and camp protection. The tarpaulin is light, flame-retardant and furnished with pockets which can hold ballistic protection panels. The tarpaulin can be easily mounted on different structures and zipped together. It provides complete and unique protection against blast and fragment impact from explosives, and projectiles from hand-held weapons. The specially designed Rackit is a foldable light steel rack constructed to hold the Coverit tarpaulin. As both our racks and tarpaulins are easily attachable, it is simple to create a protective wall or fence that covers the entire length of the assets to be protected. COVERIT BALLISTIC PROTECTION MAT SYSTEMThe Coverit ballistic protection tarpaulin system is formed by lanes (95cm x 398cm) formed from fire-retardant fabrics. It is equipped with nine pockets that can hold ballistic tiles of 44cm x 88cm. Its protection capability can be adjusted to withstand the relevant threat by use of various ballistic panels. The tarpaulins are equipped with two strong lengthwise-mounted zippers for fastening, and five metal fortified rings for lashing. The total weight of a Coverit without tiles, when made from a standard 720gr/m² fabric, is less than 7kg. The tarpaulin system Coverit can either be mounted directly onto containers, prefabs, observation posts, roofs or walls, or on the Rackit to form a protection wall or fence. BALLISTIC PROTECTIVE WALLThe Rackit is made from 60mm x 30mm x 3mm cold rolled steel/37 and 2in steel/37 pipes. It weighs less than 40kg and has an overall size of 260cm x 76cm. When erected it stands at an angle that leaves the top 240cm from the ground. When the Coverit is mounted on the Rackit, six ballistic panel pockets are placed on the front, and three are hooked on the rear. By placing Rackits close together it is easy to zip mounted Coverits together. This ensures you can form a wall of an indefinite length to fully protect tents, entrances and alleys for VIP’s, generator-isles and other key assets. MAINTENANCE OF FUNCTIONALITY EVEN UNDER IMMENSE FORCE The Coverit and Rackit were both tested by the Danish School of Engineers at the Tranum firing range. During the test, the Coverit was mounted with metal panels on the Rackit wall. The test verified that the Coverit and Rackit can withstand immensely-high explosive force. An 81mm Danish mortar bomb, M/48, FA, made no discernible impact even when placed just 5.6m from the Rackit. The extreme force of a 155mm H projectile, HE M107, which was detonated 7.5 m from the Rackit, caused scares. It did not, however, disrupt the Coverit's functionality. It required this 155mm H projectile to be detonated just 5.6m from the Rackit to begin to reduce the Coverit's functionality. Furthermore, even under this immense force the position of the Rackit only altered by 5cm. RESISTANCE TO 155MM HE M107 GRENADESThe Coverit, Rackit and metal panels remained unchanged throughout the test, so the impact from the explosives was accumulative. The Coverit therefore proved it can maintain its ballistic panels in the correct position even after multiple impacts from explosions of a force up to that of 155mm HE M107 grenades detonated just 5m away. BALLISTIC PROTECTION FROM EXPLOSIVES FOR PERSONNEL, EQUIPMENT OR BUILDINGSThe test showed that the Rackit only suffers a minor displacement from explosions up to the force of a 155mm HE M107 detonated at a distance of a mere 5m. Combined with the strength of the Coverit, this ensures exceptional protection for your containers and buildings.
