Established more than 30 years ago, Canvas and Tent are based in Ladysmith, in the centre of the historic battlefields of Kwa Zulu Natal, and we are the largest suppliers of military tents in Africa. Although proudly South African, we have gradually expanded our business across the globe, and we currently have representatives in Australia and in the USA.

Our products are depended upon throughout Africa, and even as far afield as Turkey, Kosovo and Afghanistan. Our factory is perfectly situated for the export of our products either by air or by sea through our convenient proximity to Durban, with its major airport and harbour.

UNITED NATIONS APPROVED MILITARY TENTS

A standard requirement of military tents is that they must be robust, straightforward to maintain and comfortable. Canvas and Tent operate with these specifications in mind, and have successfully incorporated these factors into our design and production. These systems have been well proven as we have participated in several disaster relief programs, and have received the honour of being named a preferred supplier to the United Nations.

We can provide a range of tailored military tents, to meet the requirements of various situations. Our product options include general-purpose shelters, adventure bow tents and hospital shelters, as well as a range of personnel and thermal tents. We can supply anything from one-man tents to a whole camp system fit to accommodate 5,000 men. Additionally, we currently have four dedicated crews to assist you in fitting or maintaining your new or existing tented units.

Our tents can be designed to fit the conditions in which they are to be used, and our products are currently being relied upon in several combat and peace-keeping operations across the globe.

CANVAS RESEARCH LABORATORY

The factory, based in the foothills of the Drakensberg, covers an area of 14,000m² and we currently employ more than 400 people. These foundations ensure that quality is a consistent characteristic of our products. Our laboratory continues to research new and improved methods for curing, treating, laminating and strengthening canvas, enabling us to improve existing products and introduce new products with regularity, constantly adding value.

We are an ISO 9000/2000 certified company, and an approved supplier to Armscor, both the South African and the UK militaries, and several African Union countries. Our quality is also recognised and accredited by the WHO, UNICEF, UNDP and a range of other aid organisations.
