The participation of European nations at this year's DSEi (Defence Systems & Equipment International) exhibition has risen by 25 per cent in comparison with the last show in 2005. This time round there are also new country pavilions from Bulgaria, Lithuania and Turkey as well as expanded pavilions from France, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holland and Norway. The Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Poland and Switzerland will also be represented. There is an equally strong international contingent exhibiting at DSEi this year; participation from the US, Canada and Australia has also increased.
DSEi is a tri-service show, a feature which has a strong appeal for visitors. This year, visitors that are focusing on the aerospace sector will be able to see exhibitor displays from the major partners and supply chain companies involved in programmes such as Eurofighter Typhoon and F35 Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter). More than 25,000 visitors attended DSEi in 2005 and the organisers are anticipating increased visitor attendance this year – particularly from Europe and the US.
This is a pivotal time in the progression and future strategy of the European defence market. In recognition of this, European defence procurement issues will be an important feature on the agenda during The DSEi Global Defence Conference. The EDA's deputy chief executive, Dr Hilmar Linnenkamp, will be among four influential speakers taking part in the opening plenary session on the first morning of the conference. Dr Linnenkamp will be addressing transformation strategy issues surrounding people, policy and procurement across the European defence scene. Located alongside the exhibition halls within ExCeL, London, the two-day conference will take place on 12 and 13 September, the second and third day of this year's exhibition.
