The Japanese armed forces have deployed their stock of WFEL-made medium girder bridges (MGBs) following the earthquake and tsunami of March 11th.
Double-storey MGBs with handrails have been constructed to help reconnect areas cut off by the devastating natural disasters and remain in place to aid civilian traffic flow until permanent infrastructure can be repaired or replaced.
WFEL’s MGB is regularly used by armed forces as part of their emergency and disaster relief operations. Last summer, the Venezuelan military deployed MGBs in the wake of mass flooding.
The MGB comes in a variety of configurations and is capable of spanning gaps of over 70 metres and withstanding loads of up to 70 tonnes.
There are more than 500 MGBs in use worldwide by almost 40 different armed forces.
