K&L Microwave

K&L Microwave designs and manufactures a full line of radio frequency (RF) and microwave filters and duplexers for military and homeland security defence electronics programmes.

The company also supplies an array of subassemblies, including ceramic, lumped element, cavity, waveguide and tunable filters.

Signal filters for military and commercial applications

K&L’s commercial products include high-performance receive and transmit filters, delay line filters, duplexers and diplexers, combiners, receive multi-couplers, wireless system assemblies for base station requirements, and lower-cost ceramic and lumped element parts.

Customer PIN Diode switches cover DC to 30GHz with switching speeds as low as 200 nanoseconds.
The UB series of ultra-miniature lumped element filters come with a frequency range from 300MHz to 2,500MHz.
K&L's filter related assemblies include various features such as switched filter banks and tunable filters.
K&L has previously supported spaceflight programmes such as Apollo 17.
K&L test systems certify the performance of radio frequency components.
All of K&L's product lines produce multicouplers from two to ten channels. Applications include front-end filtering for electronic warfare applications to TX/RX duplexers for radio communications.
Tunable filter products for laboratory / testing environments are available from 30MHz to 8GHZ in both bandpass and bandstop configurations. Many variations are available from stock for quick delivery.
K&L's high-power low-pass filter are ideal for harmonic suppression. Low-pass filters with cutoff frequencies in the 100MHz range handle 1KW of CW power in a 4.5in x 1.9in x 1.24in package.
K&L's low PIM filtering solutions are used for applications such as up / down converters, RF / microwave multi-plexer modules, combining / splitting cellular base stations to a common antenna, and broadband measurement of RF emissions.
KeL-fil® brand ceramic bandpass filters comprise two to six-section designs ranging in frequency from 270MHz to 3,000MHz, providing users with low-cost filter solutions for wireless applications.

Applications include satellite communications, radar, radio communications, fire control radars, telemetry applications, missile guidance systems, mobile radio base stations, and air traffic control and communications.

Customisable lumped element filters with varying configurations

K&L Microwave offers lumped element filters with a broad selection of frequencies, topologies and mechanical configurations.

Implementing standard packages has enabled the company to provide custom units while minimising turnaround times.

Key features include:

  • Bandpass, lowpass, highpass, bandreject
  • Passband bandwidths 3% to greater than 100% of centre frequency
  • 500KHz to 20GHz
  • Multiplexers: 2 to 10+ channels available
  • Operating temperatures from -55°C to 85°C
  • Available potted for adverse vibration environment
  • Chebychev, bessel, gaussian, transitional gaussian, pseudo-elliptic transfer functions
  • Available amplititude and phase matching, equalisation and custom packages
  • Space flight heritage products

Cavity filters for effective parameter enhancement

K&L Microwave’s standard cavity filters offer high-performance characteristics that enhance parameters such as insertion loss and power-handling capacity through a special package design.

The filters key features comprise a frequency range from 30MHz to 94GHz; a bandpass and bandreject; passband bandwidths of 0.1% to 50% of centre frequency; chebychev, bessel, gaussian, transitional gaussian and pseudo-elliptic transfer functions.

Mixed technologies, high-pass and low-pass configurations are also available, as well as multiplexers, custom packages and space flight heritage.

Dielectric resonator filters for stable temperatures and low-insertion loss

K&L’s dielectric resonator filters are available with a basic Chebycheve design.

Connectors available are subminiature version A (SMA) and RF pins. Ceramic resonators enable this filter series offers superior temperature stability levels and low insertion loss.

The dielectric resonator filters’ key features include bandpass and bandreject frequencies between 270MHz and 3GHz, passband bandwidths between 1% and 30% of centre frequency, and sealed and open frame options.

Suspended substrate filters for broadband filter interconnection

The suspended substrate medium is useful for realising broadband, highly selective filters.

High-pass and low-pass filters can be interconnected to form broadband bandpass filters or diplexers, and several other structures can be printed on suspended substrate, such as combline, interdigital, hairpin and bandstop filters.

These designs improve temperature stability compared to other printed circuit realisations since the fields are mainly in air rather than in a dielectric. Interior enclosure walls hold the circuit and prevent movement that could be caused by vibration or mechanical shock.

The suspended substrate filters comprise a frequency range of 2MHz to 18GHz, as well as bandpass, low-pass, high-pass and bandreject, passband bandwidths of 50% to 100% of centre frequency and available multiplexers and custom packages.

Multi-function assembly by filter configuration

K&L Microwave custom-configures an array of filters into an integrated product assembly to minimise the development cycle time.

Multifactor authentication (MFA) products enable the customer to allow K&L Microwave to offer a turnkey solution to their more complex filtering requirements.

Key product features include manually or computer-controlled tunable bandpass and bandreject filters, as well as switched filter banks, filter / (LNA) assemblies and filters with limiters.
