Saft, a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of high-end batteries, has achieved the highest level of recognition, the 'Five Star Supplier Excellence Award', from Raytheon Network Centric Systems (NCS). Saft is the first supplier to receive the award, and has received recognition for the past five years, with four-star recognition since 2007 and three-star recognition in 2006.

"We are thrilled and honoured to receive the top Supplier Excellence Award from Raytheon," said Thomas Alcide, general manager of Saft's Specialty Battery Group, who accepted the award on behalf of Saft on 14 September 2010 in Dallas, Texas. "After receiving supplier excellence recognition for the past four years, this honour demonstrates Saft's commitment to high standards, consistent improvement efforts and continued customer service."

Saft was recognised partly because it has successfully delivered more than 2,500 batteries for Raytheon's improved target acquisition system (ITAS) for the US Army's TOW missile. Saft's 28V lithium battery box powers the surveillance, target acquisition and fire control system for the missile.

Raytheon NCS instituted the annual Supplier Excellence Award program in 2006 to recognise suppliers that have exceeded expectations and shown outstanding performance with regard to quality and on-time delivery. Candidates undergo a rigorous assessment process and are judged on several criteria, including performance ratings and several quantitative and qualitative analyses. In order to achieve five-star status, a supplier must have already received the four-star award. Saft is the only company awarded the highest honour.
